Blood Flow After 45: 5 Changes Worth Paying Attention To
A straightforward look at stamina, recovery, and performance—and where nitric oxide fits in.

First, the simple science: Nitric oxide is a signal your body makes that helps blood vessels relax, allowing blood to flow more easily. These everyday changes can have many causes; none proves that nitric oxide is low.
The usual hill takes more effort
A familiar walk or a flight of stairs feels harder. Blood flow delivers oxygen to working muscles, but fitness, sleep, and health conditions also affect how activity feels.
Bouncing back takes longer
The workout, golf, or yardwork is done, but you’re still feeling it the next day. Circulation plays a role in recovery, alongside sleep, nutrition, and how hard you’ve pushed yourself.
Your hands or feet feel colder
Circulation is one possible reason, but so are temperature and other conditions. Persistent coldness, numbness, or pain deserves a conversation with a healthcare professional.
You run out of steam earlier
An afternoon slump can reflect sleep, stress, diet, medicines, or a medical condition. It isn’t a nitric oxide test, and a supplement won’t replace finding the cause.
Erection quality is less predictable
Nitric oxide helps smooth muscle relax so blood can enter penile tissue. Hormones, nerves, medicines, and stress also matter. New or ongoing changes are worth discussing with a healthcare professional.
These changes aren’t a screening tool. Seek medical advice about persistent or worsening symptoms, and check with a clinician or pharmacist before using a supplement with medication.

What does the research say?
Your body converts L-citrulline into L-arginine, which it can use to produce nitric oxide.
In a small 2011 study of 24 men with mild erectile dysfunction, 12 improved erection hardness during the L-citrulline period, compared with 2 during the placebo period. The men averaged 56.5 years old and took placebo for one month, then 1.5 g of L-citrulline daily for one month.
This was a preliminary, single-blind ingredient study. It did not test Hard+, compare brands, or establish what any individual should expect.
JOYMODE formulator Eric Trexler, PhD, says: “I liked the JOYMODE team and was excited to work with them because they are taking an evidence based approach to male wellness.” This is a published brand-affiliated statement, not a medical review of this article.
